Roger relaxing in Thailand

I love to travel and capture images of connections between people and their environments, both cultural and physical. I'd like people to feel a connection with other people and places through my images. I believe that these connections actually influence our sense of reality, and will increase our compassion for each other and the world in which we live.

I look for elements in a subject or situation that evoke a sense of connection or insight. My themes often center around Buddhism or some of its teachings, but most of the time I attempt to capture the similarity between ourselves and others who seem to live a quite different life. The connections we feel based on the similarities we see or feel are far more meaningful than our apparent differences.

My current work developed from my practice of Tibetan Buddhism and my love of travel, particularly my annual trips to India and Thailand. I'm attracted to the happiness of the people I meet and the very colorful settings in which they live their lives. Their sense of contentment with what they have, which is often significantly less than what we enjoy in the United States, inspires me to be more content with what I already have and to enjoy it more. My aspiration is that we all become more mindful of our connections with each other.
